TriAdventure Hires Swim Coach

Following their guiding principle of “always doing more to help our athletes and fitness enthusiasts improve and succeed”, Kelly McPherson and Anne Jones, of “TriAdventure Multisport Coaching and Fitness, have hired a knowledgeable swim coach to help their triathletes swim more efficiently and faster.

For most triathletes, swimming is a struggle.  Unless they have grown up in competitive swimming, a mile or even a 300 yard swim is daunting.  Correct form is illusive and the tendency is to fight the water.   That is where Tom Williams comes in - Tom comes to TriAdventure with a strong background in competitive swimming and coaching.  He competed for over 20 years in age-group and collegiate swimming, performing as a four-year letter winner at the University of Tennessee. While in Knoxville, Tom helped the Vols win the prestigious SEC Championship and finish 3rd in the NCAA Championships.
More recently, Tom has been involved in coaching, working with Olympic athletes, teaching private lessons and clinics and serving as an assistant coach at The University of Tennessee, Wittenburg University, and Virginia Tech.

For the last three summers Tom has run his own 8-week High Altitude Swim Training camp in Colorado.  In Colorado, Tom coaches several triathletes, and has assisted several in achieving their Triathlete Pro Card.

"TriAdventure is very happy to have Tom on our team. We believe he will make all of our athletes better swimmers, helping them exit the water faster, making them faster triathletes overall," Head Coach Anne Jones stated in a recent interview.

Christiansburg is an ideal location for this event featuring a course that is scenic, fast and safe.  The event will begin, transition and end at the new, state-of-the-art Christiansburg Aquatic Center.  Swimmers will navigate a 400 yard snake-swim before taking on the out-and-back, relatively flat, 13.5 mile bike course.  The race will end with a fast 5k run along Depot Street in Christiansburg.

The TriAdventure Summer Sprint will join Set-Up Event’s established state-wide portfolio of 20-plus endurance events which include Angel’s Race in Lynchburg, the Smith Mountain Lake Sprint and Bath County's Lake Moomaw Triathlon. “Working with a first-class company like Set-UP to host the new TriAdventure Summer Sprint fits in perfectly with the mission of TriAdventure Multisport Coaching”, said Anne Jones Thompson, founder of TriAdventure Multisport.  Part of the proceeds from the race will be donated to Fitness In Action, a non-profit company formed to help underprivileged youth in the New River Valley train for and complete a triathlon.
